July 12
This day is memorable for several reasons:
1. July 12, 2012 was the day Craig and I met for a friendly cup of coffee, which was about eight years after we graduated from high school and eventually lost touch. It was this day, 3 years ago that led us to marriage and stands as a reminder of God’s blessings in our marriage. Now, it’s July 12, 2015, and we’re talking about babies! God has richly blessed us!
2. For over a year, I told my husband (and myself) that we should get together with this couple from our church. For over a year! Finally it happened. We met Karalee and Troy for Mexican on July 12, 2015, but it almost didn’t happen… Because we are blessed in Louisville with Mexican restaurants on every corner, they mistakenly went to the wrong corner. :) It still makes me chuckle, but alas, we all made it to one Mexican restaurant and that’s where…
3. I spilled the refried beans.

3. I spilled the refried beans.
Not literally.
You see, as much as we wanted to eat Mexican with Karalee and Troy, Craig and I also wanted to know more about growing families through adoption. We wanted to chat more with two of our favorite people about growing their own family through adoption, because at this point our heads were spinning as we did our own reading and researching. We needed a real live Christian couple to share their experience and thoughts. However, they didn’t know this yet.
So as we munched on chips and salsa, conversation on everyday things went great. We laughed. We chuckled. We carried on. I tried to make a really smooth transition (Craig reminded me after lunch how unsmooth it was) into a conversation on adoption, but it was more like a quick, bumpy sharp turn followed by happy crying by me. Thankfully they are wonderful people. Troy fist pumped and Karalee told me to let it all out.
So the beans were spilled. We wanted to know more about adoption!
Troy and Karalee were excited to share and we were excited to learn. We took in a lot. Many questions were answered. Stories were shared. New insight was given. We left lunch that day with our heads and hearts full, and our bellies too.
Back at the house, I remember sitting with Craig in the backyard. The dogs, Ruby and Buddy, were running around. It was a warm day, but super pleasant especially for July. It started at lunch, but it was at this point that we were able to recognize such a sense of calm, a calm that can only come from trusting the Lord.
Psalm 125:1 is one of my favorites and I think it speaks of this calm. The psalmist writes, “Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.” In its original language the word for trust has the meaning of confidence, security, and certainty. God’s presence in our lives has taught us that we can be confident, secure, and certain of him. His continued presence demonstrates that we can trust him. So, while sitting outside with Craig that day, we knew we’d made our decision. We placed our trust in God and...
4. We officially made the decision to grow our family through adoption!
And so began the adoption process.
Trusting in Him,
Beth
