We. Are. Almost. Ready! ...To Wait!
Our home study is in its last stages of completion. This involves interviews with our caseworker, background checks, a study of our home to ensure that it's safe for Baby, and a lot of paperwork that I won't bore you with. Once it's 100% done, we begin The Waiting Phase. We've officially done all that we can, ya’ll! Good thing I'm a patient woman...said Beth never.
This is an extremely exciting time for us, but there's not much excitement when it comes to us waiting until we’re matched with Baby. What is exciting is knowing that God is actively working, and he continues to make his presence known through this process. So while I figuratively and literally bite away at my fingernails, I can rest in this:
God is in control.
He always was.
Always is.
Always will be.
And he has a plan.

There are some big reminders of this in the Bible. One of my favorites is when God spoke in Job 38 and boy, does Job get an earful. God asks Job, "Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?" (v. 4). "Who shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb, when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place, when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’?” (v. 8-11). God is on a roll! All I can think is “Get it God! Keep on rolling.” And he does. He asks, “Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?” (v. 12-13). God goes on for several more chapters and reminds Job and me that he was there for creation. He was always there. Even before us, he laid the foundations, he controlled the oceans, and he told the sun how to shine. He was the Creator. Therefore, he can handle my situation too.
In Exodus 3, God speaks to Moses through the burning bush and shares that He will bring the Israelites out of Egypt. God tells him to go to the Israelites, but Moses isn’t too confident and doesn’t know who he should say sent him. God tells him in verse 14, “I AM WHO I AM.” Now this language arts teacher loves that… all caps… present tense. That is power! God is our all caps God. He was not only the Creator, he is present. I can rest knowing that God is present. He is in control. He is I AM.
Then, in Ephesians 1:4-6, Paul writes, “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.” This reminds us that God had a plan from the very beginning. Even before creation, God knew me. Knew you. Knew the child that would come into our family, just as he knew we would come into his adopted family. Wowee! That gets me excited! God had a plan then. God has a plan now. He had a plan for his family, and he has a plan for ours.
I am still a work in progress when it comes to waiting. I have my weak moments. Still, the truth is clear: As we wait with I AM and the Creator of the universe, we can rest in knowing God’s got this. He knows the plan.
Trusting in His timing,
Beth
